Weaning My Baby From Breastfeeding: How Am I Going To Do This?!

I love breastfeeding....
All along my goal was to breastfeed Rosalie for one year, but here we are a week away from her birthday and I am kind of totally freaking out! Not because I feel like I HAVE to wean her, but because I am having this inner battle! I want to wean her because I know that she is old enough and will be fine once she gets used to it. I also like the idea of having a bit more freedom. BUT at the same time, I am not ready to let go of my mommy/baby nursing time, and I know that it is going to be hard (probably more so for me than for her, but I guess we will see).
She started to wean herself a bit before she got sick/started teeth, but after those things happened, she went back to really wanting to nurse. She is still a super good nurser too, and doesn't just "snack" if you will. She is a good little eater (now that she is feeling better), and she is slowly getting use to drinking milk out of her sippy cup. I am not doing the whole bottle thing because she doesn't like bottles, and weaning her onto a bottle would just be mean I would have to eventually wean her off of the bottle and onto a sippy cup.
So, YES I am "that" mom, and you know what, I don't care! I am so glad that I have been able to breastfeed Rosalie, and I feel blessed that I have had such an awesome milk supply. She latched on from day one, and hasn't had a problem since. I also never got sore at all, which was awesome! She did go through a phase where she thought it was funny to bite me, but thankfully that passed before she got teeth. ;)
As of right now the plan is to start weaning her within the next month or so. It isn't set in stone or anything though, so I will see how it goes. I have been reading, asking questions, and forming some ideas about how to go about it. I am hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst haha!
Wish me luck!!! I will keep you all updated :)

  1. I hear ya. I love breastfeeding my baby ( 4 months) and I am so not looking forward to not having that time with her. I know what you mean when you say it's a little more freedom, but it's such a special time together. Your little girl is such a cutie bytheway. Good luck!

  2. The only one I have intentionally weaned was a biter at 6 months, the rest just gradually faded out between 9 and 15 months. It just kind of happens naturally a lot of the time. Don't overthink it!
