I feel like this is often a super touchy topic to talk about, but I have been thinking about it a lot lately, so I am going to talk about it. If you aren’t interested than you are more than welcome to scroll to the bottom of my post and read the funny pregnancy memes ;)
When I first
got pregnant I wanted to make sure that I did everything that I could to have a
healthy pregnancy. I wanted to eat the right amount of calories, gain the right
amount of weight, exercise like I should, etc. I asked my doctor and looked up
all of the necessary information to found out exactly how I could do this.
However, I soon realized that pregnancy isn’t as black and white as all that. I
was so sick from week 6 to week 16 that I was lucky to keep down the oatmeal
that I had for breakfast. I hated vegetables at this point, and pasta was my
best friend. The green smoothies that had once sounded great to me, now made me
want to barf. The thought of going to the gym at this point was non-existent,
and I had no idea how many calories I was eating a day. I sometimes felt really
guilty about this, but I knew that I was doing the best that I could. I think
that this is something that all pregnant women need to hear and understand
because it was something that I didn’t. I read all sorts of information online
about how my baby HAD to have all of these nutrients or else he/she wouldn’t
develop properly. While I think that you should definitely do you best to be as
healthy as possible during pregnancy, sometimes your body just won’t let you
eat all of the fruits, veggies, proteins, and whole grains that you feel like
you should be eating. Don’t beat yourself up about it!
So with that
said, I will get to my point on weight gain. I was a bit worried at first that
gaining weight during pregnancy was going to be something that was hard for me.
I was so used to seeing a certain number on the scale, and I wasn’t sure how I
would feel when I saw that number go up. However, once again I learned another
lesson during pregnancy. I actually liked seeing the number go up because it
meant that my baby girl was growing! Now that doesn’t mean that I liked seeing
my thighs and my arms getting bigger, or that I didn’t feel insecure at all,
but I loved watching my belly grow! I knew that this big belly meant that my
sweet baby girl was getting the nutrients that she needed from me and was
growing and developing just as she should. My doctor told me that I was right
on track at each appointment, and this really comforted me as well. At my last
doctor’s appointment I stepped on the scale and saw the highest number that I
had ever seen in my life, and guess what?! I didn’t mind one bit! I was happy
to see that I had gained another .5 lbs and my baby girl was growing J What a
blessing! Now, I am not saying that gaining weight is something that is easy
and super joyful, and I know that every pregnant woman is different, but I
personally am so grateful that my baby girl is growing and I will take whatever
comes along with it.
Now that I am
down to the “wire” so to speak and only have 2 weeks and 4 days left until my
due date, I can honestly say that ALL I worry about is having a healthy baby
girl! I don't care that I am swollen on my face, hands, feet or that getting around is super hard for me, because it is all so worth it! I love her so much already, and I feel so blessed to be her momma. In the
end, no matter how much weight I gained or how sick I felt during pregnancy
doesn’t matter to me, just as long as this sweet baby girl is healthy when she
gets here.
*So I just read through this, and I just want to say that I mean no offense by anything that I say! This is just my personal opinion, so I am really sorry if I offend anyone :) Pregnancy is amazing, and I look up to all of you moms out there who have gone through it all and delivered your sweet babies :)
