Why I LOVE Having a Gym Membership

I have said in the past that I have really missed having a gym membership while I have been in Vernal for the summer, and I feel like I have missed it more and more as summer has gone on. While I have loved spending the summer here, I just miss my gym in Provo. I miss my routine, and I miss all that it has to offer me. There are certain reasons why having a gym membership is so good for me personally, so I'm going to talk about some of them :)

1.  I love that I can mix up my workouts when I am at the gym

I love running, really I do, but I need to be able to mix it up and do other things as well. When I am at the gym I have such easy access to the ellipticals, the bikes, and other types of exercise equipment. This makes it so easy for me to cross train and to find workouts that I really want to do. Plus on the days when my stomach is acting up (which sadly happens way too often), I can still get in a decent work out in. They also have tons of free weights and weight machines I can use.

2. I am more motivated

Let's face it... a building that is full of people who are exercising all around you is more motivating than a living room with comfortable recliners and a soft couch! When I see that everyone around me is working hard to get their sweat on, I want to as well. I am the type of person who needs all of the motivation that I can get, so I love this about the gym!

3. They offer child care

This hasn't been something that has ever mattered to me in the past, but it does now. I love knowing that I can go to the gym when Chanse is at work or school, and have a great facility for Rosalie to go to as well. Now that doesn't mean that I am not a nervous wreck even thinking about leaving Rosalie alone in the gym daycare, but I do know that it is a great program. I myself have worked in this area of the gym before, and I know first hand just how well those kiddos are taken care of. Now if I can just convince myself of this ha!

4. Gyms offer different classes
I took my very first class with my sister right before we came to Vernal and I really liked it! It pushed me out of my comfort zone, and it made me work muscles that I don't generally workout on my own. I was sore for days, and I thought it was great! I'm one of those people who LOVES to be sore because I feel like I actually did something :) I now want to take more classes and find the ones that I really enjoy.

5. I am weird and I like treadmills

I know most people go on and on about how they hate the treadmill, but this just isn't the case for me. Well...unless it is my mom's 100 year old treadmill that has a band as skinny as a toothpick and an incline that makes me feel like I am running up Mount Everest! The gym treadmills are great though, and I love that I can calculate my time and my pace and change the incline and speed. I am also super competitive, so if that girl on the treadmill next to me is still running, then so am I. Running outside this summer has been a nice change from running inside during the winter months, but I love having the option of both.

6. It is nice to leave the house to exercise
So like I said earlier, I am the type of person that needs to be motivated. Gym=motivation. House= zero, zippo, zilch motivation. I have to dig deep to do my strength training and ab workouts when I am at home, so a lot of the time they don't happen as much as they should. Even if I go to the gym and then come home to do certain workouts (like my abs), I am still way more motivated because I am still on my gym "high" if you will.

7. I love the Cardio Cinema
The gym that I normally go to in Provo has a theater room with treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and other machines, and I love it! The room is dark, with a huge screen that plays different movies each day. I love this room for 2 reasons. First of all,  I love that it is dark because it is a fun change and it really helps me to get into the zone. Second, I love that I get to watch good movies while I run because it distracts me when I am super tired.

8. I get a better workout at the gym
This one kind of relates to #2 and #6 in a way because I am excited to go to the gym and motivated once I get there. These two things allow me to get a better workout in all together. I am also completely in the zone when I am at the gym, and there aren't other things or people to distract me like my sweet baby girl, my hubby, house work, my phone, etc.

9. They have all the equipment I need
I always know that I am going to be able to find what I need at the gym and more! When I am home I often wish I had this machine or that set of weights, but this is never a problem at the gym. In fact, most of the time I feel like I have no idea what to do with half of the equipment at the gym! This is something I am working on ha!

10. I know I can always find my sister there ;)
Okay this one is kind of a joke...kind of! My sister is always working out, so I often see her there when I go. We both are pretty busy people, but we would hardly go a day without seeing each other because we would always run into each other at the gym. She is so hardcore, and she is my workout idle. I am trying to convince her to be a fitness instructor because she could motivate anyone with her positive energy :) She blogs over at Way of Life, and she is an amazing photographer as well (seriously she is too talented!)

*Do you enjoy working out at home or at the gym?
*Do you enjoy classes at your gyms? What ones?

  1. Number 2 is way too true!
I work out at home, especially during the fall and winter, because I don't think my local gym
can ever be clean enough.. And I can't risk getting sick and missing classes!
Although there are some nice, clean gyms near me..they cost an arm, a leg, and a wallet!

  4. THANKS RACH you're too nice! Ya I'm kinda of a gym nazi. I'm so excited for you to get a pass at the university golds & go to classes with me!
I'm with you about the working out at home thing. I can do my ab video no problem but it's hard to do a full cardio work-out & weights. I LOVE classes at my gym! I take pump, turbo kick, spin, yoga, even step sometimes (I'm terrible). I even had a dream about pump class last night, then I woke up & was sad I couldn't go since I'm out of Utah for the moment.
Love you!! Thanks for all the sweet compliments. You're the best!
